The Chinese EQUATOR Centre at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) hosted the “Healthcare Reporting Guidelines and Open Science Workshop” on 24 March 2025 at the Wing Lung Bank Building for Business Studies on the Shaw Campus of HKBU. The event gathered international leading experts in clinical epidemiology, integrative medicine, and guideline development to discuss the latest advancements in healthcare reporting and open science.
Convened by Professor Bian Zhaoxiang, Director of the Chinese EQUATOR Centre, the workshop featured opening remarks and a warm welcome to participants. Professor David Moher, a renowned clinical epidemiologist and Director of the Centre for Journalology (publication science), Methodological and Implementation Research Program, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, delivered a keynote on the methodology of developing reporting guidelines, highlighting the vital importance of standardized reporting in health research. Professor Chen Yaolong, Executive Dean of the Institute of Health Data Science at Lanzhou University, shared his insights into the development, dissemination and implementation of the RIGHT reporting guideline and its extensions. He emphasized that the adoption of reporting guidelines helps to improve the quality and transparency of health research publications, providing a solid foundation for international academic exchange. Professor Lee Myeong Soo, principal researcher at the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine, delivered a presentation on standardized reporting in integrative medicine, highlighting the importance of transparent and replicable research practices in multidisciplinary healthcare.
Throughout the workshop, lively group discussions followed each presentation, enabling participants to engage directly with the speakers and exchange perspectives on key issues. Professor David Moher also spoke on the progress and challenges of open science. In closing, Professor Bian Zhaoxiang expressed his gratitude to all speakers and attendees, and mentioned that standardized reporting is foundational to the advancement of healthcare research; this workshop not only created a collaborative platform for international experts and local researchers to exchange knowledge and spur innovation, but also offered new insights to drive open science and transparent health research.
